Welcome to the Spring '97 Semester of Music 612B/Music 4

I would like to welcome the students of UT Austin and UT Brownsville to your virtual classroom. As its name suggests, the home page will serve as your base or home port. The home page contains links to information that is essential to the course, for example, the syllabus and course schedule.

As we complete each lesson on the schedule, I will publish the class notes for that lesson. Consequently, I will be adding new links to the home page nearly every day. As well as the material covered in class, several links will lead you to areas containing supplemental information. That is, material intended to deepen your understanding of a particular subject or concept. I will make some of these pages interactive, so you will be able to use them as self-tests. I will also include musical examples, both notational and audio.

In order to take advantage of the more interactive pages, you will need to have a specific computer setup. For example, if you have the correct browser version, the proper plugins, and the correct Apple software, you should automatically hear your computer start playing music when the page is finished downloading. If you want to stop the music from playing, go to the bottom of the page and find the audio control buttons. Click the stop button. If you do not hear any sound, then you need to get the proper setup. Below you will find links that contain step-by-step instructions for setting up your computer.

Do you know the name of the piece of music that is playing in the background? Send me an e-mail message with your answer (clicking on my e-mail address below will start Netscape's mail component). If you are correct, I will give you extra credit points.
