The Boy and the Louse

Traditional Sámi folktale

A boy once had a louse which he could not bring himself to kill, and he objected when others wanted to kill it. The louse sucked his blood and
grew bigger and bigger. In the end, the louse said: "Since you can't bear to kill me, I shall bring myself round to killing you," – and the louse bit the boy to death.
