Directions for Downloading Data Sets

All download files are stored as compressed, self-extracting files with the file extension of  ".EXE", e.g. "GSS2002_PrejudiceAndAltruism.EXE".
  1. Click on the link to a file to download it to your computer.   You will be asked to specify a destination directory.  On the classroom computers, this directory is C:\SW388R7. This is the default that I have included when creating the self-extracting files. I suggest you use the same name on your computer.
  2. When the file has finished downloading, navigate to C:\SW388R7 on your computer (or whatever folder name you specified).
  3. Double click on the downloaded file. A window titled WinZip Self-Extractor will open.
  4. In the WinZip Self-Extractor window, click on the Unzip button. A dialog box will notify you when the file in unzipped.
  5. When the file is unzipped, close the WinZip Self-Extractor window.
  6. Delete the self-extracting file with the ".EXE" extension from your C:\SW388R7 folder. You computer operating system may tell you that this is a program file and require you to verify that you do want to delete it.

The unzipped data sets are SPSS system data files with the file extension ".SAV", e.g. "GSS2002_PrejudiceAndAltruism.SAV".
