Professional travel to Russia and Eastern Europe

Attended the Thirteenth International Congress of Slavists, Ljubljana, Slovenia, August 2003.

Eight trips to Poland: Faculty/Staff Exchange between the LBJ School of Public Affairs (UT Austin) and the National School of Public Administration (Warsaw) (1994), IREX Research Exchange (1987), and Texas Summer Study/Research Program in Cracow, Poland (as co-director) (1986). Also in 1977, 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2002.

Five trips to Russia, including: Summer Russian Language Teacher Exchange Program, Moscow State University, sponsored by the International Research and Exchange Board (IREX): (1981). Russian Language Study Program, Leningrad State University, sponsored by the Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE): (1973). Also in 1969, 1972, and 1997.

Two trips to Croatia, including: Teaching at the Summer School on Generative Grammar and the Grammar of Slavic Languages, (1991).

One trip to Bulgaria: Attending the International Congress of Slavists, Sofia. (1988).

  • First and Second Conferences on Polish Studies in the United States, Washington, DC, March 1995 and Buffalo, NY, March 1997 (both by invitation).
  • Workshop on Less Commonly Taught Languages (funded by the Department of Education), University of Minnesota, August 1995 (by invitation).
