OUTSIDE ASSIGNMENT #2:  PHYSICAL ATTRACTION

2. Complete and turn in the scales and questions below and on the following page on the date the assignment is due.

3. How to complete this assignment:

(a) Select a place for observation and interaction such as a shopping mall, a dorm, the Texas Union, etc.
(b) Identify a stranger you consider to be below average in physical attractiveness.
(c) Fill in the BEFORE scales prior to any interaction with the person you select. THEN, PUT IT AWAY AND DO NOT LOOK AT IT UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE AFTER SCALES.
(d) When you have completed the BEFORE ratings, approach the person and tell them you are doing a survey for a class at UT and you want them to answer just three questions. If they resist, try to get them to do it but if you can't, start over.
(e) When the person agrees to answer your questions, you ask the following three questions. You should write down their answers, but you don't need to hand them in. Feel free to comment on or follow up any answers you get.

  1. What is your opinion of the way the President communicates with the public?
  2. Does the President have any distracting mannerisms or aspects of his appearance you don't like?
  3. If you could have the President come to your residence tonight, what would you most like to say to him?

(f) At the end of the last question, ask the person: "Is there anything else you'd like to say?"
(g) Once you have left the scene, fill in the AFTER portion of your scales. DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR BEFORE SCALES.
(h) Analyze your responses by completing the remainder of the questions.
