 Pareto Chart & Fishbone Diagram Exercise
 

Purpose
 
The purpose of this exercise is to give students an opportunity to practice constructing and using pareto charts and fishbone diagrams. Below is a case situation. Using the information in the case, develop a pareto chart and fishbone diagram to accurately reflect the situation. Use these tools to analyze the problem and make recommendations for solving the problem.
 
Situation
 
You work for CMHC, a small community mental health center which provides outpatient mental health services. CMHC employs a variety of professionals including 10 social workers, 5 psychologists, 1 psychiatrist, an Executive Director, Director of Clinical Services, and various support staff. Staff have increasingly complained about staff meetings not being productive. Data collected from the suggestion box over the last 2 months show that many people have commented about staff meetings. This data is presented below.
