ANT 307    Informal Writing Assignment

Using the journalists WH- questions as a rough guide to exposing the nature of an event (who, what, where, when, how, why – you don't have to use them all; and perhaps other similar such questions might occur to you instead or in addition) write a 6 (but no more than 10) page (double spaced) paper on the most interesting thing that has happened to you within the past year.

Do your best to develop your narrative in an interesting, coherent, and organized way.

As this is a writing component class, papers turned in are given feedback by me and then, in response to the feedback, are revised and returned to me.  The first is a first draft and the revised paper is the final draft.   Since I give relatively detailed feedback the revision process is generally (if perhaps not always) rather mechanical and theoretically results in a "perfect" paper if my suggestions are followed.    For that reason the grade given is for the first draft and it is recorded in my grade book when I get the final draft.   If I don't receive the appropriately revised final draft then I can't record a grade for it.

The University has other resources for helping one to write well, and here is one,

THE UNDERGRADUATE WRITING CENTER

Do consider making use of their free assistance.

The Undergraduate Writing Center provides professional consulting services for students who want to improve their writing.  Located in FAC 211 (Flawn Academic Center), the UWC is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.  Students are encouraged to call ahead to make appointments (471-6222), but they will work with students on a walk-in basis as well.
