Decide whether the examples below are:

            A.  Metacognition/Cognition self-regulation

            B.  Motivation/Emotion self-regulation

            C.  Behavior/Resource Management self-regulation

like time, space, materials, and energy

1.   Before I start working on a difficult assignment, I remind myself of the importance of the work to my future goals so I don’t get discouraged.

Motivation/emotion because I am getting control over being discouraged, which is an emotional response.

2.   I find it’s quiet in the library, so I always go there when I have a test coming.

Resource management because I am identifying a place and its characteristics that will help me when I need to study.

3.   My biology text is extremely detailed and difficult to read, so reading it requires a lot of concentration.

Metacognition/cognition because this involves understanding the task demands.

4.   In order to get the most out of reading my biology text I have several choices:  I can skim the material first to get an overview; take notes in the margins of the text; and close my eyes after every section and review what I just read.

Metacognition/cognition because this indicates an awareness of different strategies that could be used.

5.   If a task I have to do requires a lot of concentration, I know that I have to be in a quiet place because I know that I am easily distracted by noise.

Metacognition/cognition in the part about knowing about being easily distracted and having to compensate for it.

6.   In order to get myself to finish a tedious task like doing grammar exercises, I schedule it just before my favorite tv show so I can use that as a reward for finishing quickly.

Motivation/emotion because this is about being motivated to complete a task.
