This course is an experiment in Distant Education. Our objective is to determine if we can significantly improve the learning process of students "taking" the course in genetics as we presently teach it. Dr. John Ellison teaches Genetics 301 at Texas A&M University. It is a 4-hour course with a lab. Dr. Dick Richardson teaches Zoology 325, Genetics, at the University of Texas at Austin. It is a 3-hour course without a lab. A separate 2-hour laboratory course, Zoology 225L, Lab Experience in Genetics, is taught by Dr. Nan Hampton.
We consider the students enrolled in this class at both campuses to be our colleagues in this experiment. We will depend on their cooperation and indulgence as we conduct this experiment with them. Their perspective is vital, and their efforts and experiences will teach us all about the educational process in general, and about Distant Education in particular.
