Of these, you should pay most attention to R&B 12, 13, and 14. On the others look back over the things we talked about concerning Uruk and Mesopotamian states and kings. Also, pay attention to the discussions of Mesoamerica, esp. the Maya.

- Ch. 12, Why did things change?
- Ch. 13, Archaeology in Action
- Ch. 14, Whose Past
The most important theme for the exam will be the various ideas about reasons for the origins of states and complex societies. For this, review Renfrew & Bahn Chapter 12 carefully, and review you notes on this.
Another theme was the New Archaeology and the various critiques of it.
