- The organization of states and empires
- The "New Archaeology" and other theoretical trends that came after it
- The archaeology of complex societies
- Trajectories of things like population growth over the last few thousand years.
These sorts of terms will be useful to know:
social stratification; managerial roles of leaders; intensification of production; settlement pattern; chiefdoms; archaeological survey; interaction spheres; diffusion and diffusionist explanations; processual and post-processual archaeology; CRM or cultural resource management
