Assignment 12
The Continuing Contact Period
In this course we have explored the ways that cultures clashed and interacted, merged and separated, and through a wide variety of historical processes, changed. Five-hundred years is not all that long, however, for changes of this magnitude to take place. Also, in many places, Central Texas included, it was only a little more than a century ago that this area was contested by Euroamerican and Native American people. What evidence do we have that we're still in the contact period? What things do you see going on around you (or in national and international news) to suggest that the historical processes of cultural interaction, competition, etc., are still taking place.
Please hand in your observations on four pieces of evidence for the idea that the contact period is still going on.
