Assignment 6

For this assignment I want you to read about the issues involved in whether or not the Makah Indians of Washington will hunt whales.

You have a handout of an article that appeared in the New York Times October 2, 1998. You can find additional information and articles on line by using search engines. For example, AltaVista will find a large number of articles if you use the search terms "Makah" and "whales."

For this assignment I want you to engage in a public, on-line discussion with the rest of the class. You have to post at least two messages: one expressing your opinion about whether or not the hunt should proceed and why, and one commenting (politely) on what others have written.

Go to the discussion board, read what others have written, and then submit your message (although all submissions are automatically logged by user, be sure to fill in both your name and comments). To see you newly posted message you may have to hit your web browser's "reload" button. Just repeat the process to submit your second posting commenting on other's opinions. All comments should be submitted by class time, Tuesday, October, 20th.
