UT Austin wants to provide the new dean with the resources needed. Fundraising activities have begun to create an endowment for the dean. The target is $10 million.
Two additional members have been added to the Dell Medical School Steering Committee: Charles Barnett, executive Board chair, Seton Healthcare Family, has been added as a member; and Dr. Steven Dell, medical director of Dell Laser Consultants and president of the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery, has been added as an adviser. The Steering Committee, representing academic and community interests, provides oversight to the development of the Dell Medical School under the leadership of Steven Leslie, executive vice president and provost; Messing; and Sue Cox, UT Southwestern regional dean for Austin programs.
