Bataan Memorial Death March

Participants in the Bataan Memorial Death March
The Bataan Memorial Death March is a challenging 26.2-mile march through the high desert terrain of White Sands Missile Range, N.M. This memorial march is conducted in honor of the heroic service members who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II, sacrificing their freedom, health and, in many cases, their very lives.  Cadets train as a team for several months in their spare time to prepare for the event.  The event usually hosts 4,000 competitors from all over the world.

Field Training Exercises

Field-training exercise

Field training exercises occur twice each semester and provide challenge, camaraderie, adventure, and a break from city life.  In the fall semester, cadets rappel, fly in helicopters, conduct obstacle courses, and conduct land navigation.  In the spring semester, cadets learn basic rifle marksmanship, and practice small unit tactics.

Intramural Sports

Ranger Detachment

Ranger Detachment
The Ranger Detachment is a close knit group of individuals who compete annually in a multi-state competition called Ranger Challenge.  Cadets from over 32 schools in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana compete to earn the annual title of Ranger Challenge Competition Winner and take home the trophy.  The Ranger Detachment cadets spend a lot of time getting in shape, and practice a variety of military events to include rope bridge, land navigation, ruck marching, hand grenade assault course, weapons assembly/disassembly, and individual movement techniques to prepare for the annual event.

In the spring semester, cadets train to earn the coveted burnt-orange Ranger Beret.  They must demonstrate technical and tactical proficiency in several events to include call for fire, evaluate a casualty, apply first aid, run 5 miles in under 40 minutes, pass a PT Test scoring 80 points in each event, and successfully pass a land navigation course.

Socials
