Undergraduate Scholarships
in the Department of Classics

Scholarship competitions are announced in March. Submit Departmental Scholarship Applications to the Academic Advising Office, Department of Classics, WAG 121, by April 1.

WILLIAM JAMES BATTLE SCHOLARSHIP IN CLASSICAL LANGUAGES

Donor: Commander Robert Eikel Jr., United States Navy, 1945

Amount: Up to $1000.

Eligibility: Any undergraduate major in Classics, Latin, Greek, or Ancient History and Classical Civilization who shows a sufficiently good knowledge of Greek or Latin to justify that he/she will help further the study of Classics. Selected on the basis of merit and need by the Scholarship of the Classics Department.

VELMA BOX SCHOLARSHIP IN CLASSICS

Donor: E.O. Box Jr., and the Phillips Petroleum Company

Amount: Up to $750.

Eligibility: Undergraduate or graduate students in the Department of Classics. Selected on the basis of merit and need by the Scholarship of the Classics Department.

RUTH AND MYRON G. KUHLMAN SCHOLARSHIP IN CLASSICS

Donor: Myron G. Kuhlman

Amount: up to $1,500

Eligibility: Undergraduates majoring in Classics, Greek, Latin, or Ancient History and Classical Civilization. Preference is given to students planning a career teaching Latin. The award is made on the basis of academic excellence, need, and the student's potential for a productive teaching career. Minimum requirements are sixty semester hours of undergraduate credit, a grade point average of 3.00, and a grade point average in Latin of 3.5. Selected on the basis of merit and need by the Scholarship of the Classics Department.

MILDRED MASTERS McCARTY SCHOLARSHIP IN CLASSICS

Donor: Mildred M. McCarty, 1979

Amount: Up to $1300.

Eligibility: Undergraduate or graduate students in the Department of Classics. Selected from the applicants on the basis of merit and need by the Scholarship Committee of the Classics Department.

Amount: Up to $1000

Eligibility: Undergraduates majoring in Classics, Greek, Latin, or Ancient History and Classical Civilization. Selected on the basis of merit and need by the Scholarship Committee of the Classics Department.

GARETH MORGAN SCHOLARSHIP

Donor: Numerous donors, in memory of Gareth Morgan, 1996 and after

Amount: Up to $500.

Eligibility: Any undergraduate major in Classics, Latin, Greek, or Ancient History and Classical Civilization. Preference is given to students who wish to use the money to study in the Department's Summer Intensive Greek program.

Each of these scholarships is sometimes divided between two or more students, depending on the pool of applicants.

Each of these scholarships may be applied either for study during the long session or for summer study.
