ACCESS: Launch telnet; open connection; depending on whether your
account is validated for uts or ccwf, type in uts.cc.utexas.edu
or ccwf.cc.utexas.edu, hit Return or click on
Connect.
AUTHENTICATION: After a moment, you are prompted to log in. Type in
the information required, hitting return or enter after each
line.
First you will be asked for your login
name. If you have never logged in before, this will be the number
beginning with "if" given you when you first obtained your account.
You will be prompted to change this after login-- select a name you
can remember and don't mind others using, as it will
OPTIONS: There are several different mail programs you can use to
access your email. The most popular are Eudora
and pine.
To use Eudora,
install the folder "Eudora copy to disk" from the classics server
onto your Zip disk or floppy and work from there. NEVER use Eudoar
directly on a Lab or other public computer! If you have never used
Eudora before, go to Special --> Settings first to set up your
mail; the "Help" files will come in handy, as may the info at
http://www.utexas.edu/cc/eudora/steps/.
For pine, you do not need anything, since the
program resides on the unix machine -- just follow the instructions
at http://www.utexas.edu/cc/pine/.
FORWARDING: To Forward mail, you need to log into your account
using telnet, as under ACCESS above. Immediately type the following,
carefully observing spaces, punctuation etc -- [return] means
hit the return key --
where newemail@mail.texas.edu is the address where you want your
mail forwarded. To check, type cat .forward [return]
and you should see the new address in a line by
itself.
OUT-OF-OFFICE autoreplies -- UT does not support the use of automatic
reply messages when you are on vacation or away.
