| This gigantic arch was Napoleon Bonaparte's monument to the French army and to his own military successes, begun in 1806 and completed in 1836 by Louis Philippe. The views from the top (toward the Eiffel Tower and toward La Defense) demonstrate a few of the grand boulevards that Baron Georges Haussmann carved through the medieval city fabric in the mid 19th century. |
