Centre Pompidou and the Adjacent Area

A mime performs for pocket change on the square in front of the modern art museum known as the Centre Pompidou (Beaubourg, for short)

The square in front of the Centre Pompidou is one of Paris' many public spaces. These spaces are the glue that holds the city together. American cities usually have few spaces like these: vibrant, diverse and alive, places to encounter friends and strangers, places to eat, sit, read, loiter, sell things, buy things, make artwork, perform, and pass through on the way to somewhere else.

The streetscape around the Les Halles complex is a striking combination of surfaces, levels, and materials, with lots of greenery and glass.
