| La Défense is Paris' highrise office district. Unlike American cities, this district is found at the outskirts of the city rather than in the center, a deliberate strategy to preserve the human scale of Paris' older districts. Visible in the center of the photo is the silver dome housing the world's largest IMAX movie theater. At the right is "La Grande Arch" (the big arch) which faces a much older arch, the Arc de Triomphe, along the view corridor called the "Voie Triumphale" (triumphal way). |
