Formatting Inserted Picture
You may want to change the size of your picture to fit your slide. You can change the size of the picture, position the picture at an exact location on the slide, and include alternative text for the Web. This formatting placeholder menu will pop up when you insert a picture, otherwise you can get it from the Format menu.
Instructions:
- Once you have inserted the picture in your slide, tab to the picture to select it.
- Press Alt + O to open the Format menu. Select the picture option. Note: The picture option is only available when the picture on the slide is selected.
- Pressing the Ctrl + Tab keys allow you to cycle through the various tab choices: color and lines, size, position, picture and Web tabs.
Size Tab:
The size tab allows you to adjust the orientation of the inserted picture. There are many fields to fill in and you can tab through them to fill in the appropriate information. Note: For all the field descriptions, make sure the number that is already in the field is deleted before adding your own number. The arrow keys can also be used to change the numbers in the edit fields.
Height is the size of the picture in inches. You can input a number here to change the size of the height of the picture. For example, typing 5" in the height text box changes the height to five inches.
Width is the size of the picture in inches. You can input a number here to change the size of the width of the picture.
Rotation allows you to rotate the picture clockwise. The dialog box has a default of 0 degrees which means the picture appears on the slide without any rotation. You can rotate the picture to any degree you want for example, to move the picture 90 degrees to the right, type in 90, 180 to turn the picture 180 degrees which makes it appear upside down on the slide and so on.
Height and Width percentage dialog boxes allow you to change the size of the picture according to a percentage. For example, typing in 50 changes the picture by decreasing its size to half its size.
Lock Aspect Ratio is a checkbox that allows you to change the ratio of the picture relative to the original size ratio of the picture. For example, if the original size of the picture is 2 inches in height and 10 inches in width, then the ratio is 5. If we decide to change the height to 3 inches, then the width will automatically increase keeping a ratio of 5. The width becomes 15 inches relative to the new height.
Relative to Original Size is a check box that allows you to change height or width individually, or both height and width if Lock Aspect Ratio is checked according to the scale of the original picture size. If you want to change only the height or only the width (in relation to the original size) separately without changing the other in the process, make sure Lock Aspect Ratio is unchecked. For example, if your original picture has a height of 2 inches, the scale of height is at 100 percent. If you change the height to 4 inches, it will change the height scale to 200 percent. Both the width and width scale will be unchanged. You can change one side to be relative to the scale of the original picture without changing the other side.
