About the Gender and Sexuality Center

The GSC supports students in their efforts to increase awareness about issues affecting women, the LGBTQ community, and those who stand in alliance with women and LGBTQ people. The office is guided by an Advisory Board comprised of students, faculty, staff, and administrators who are interested in and committed to the mission of the GSC.

The GSC aims:

  • To support a strong and welcoming community for women and LGBTQ individuals on campus.
  • To provide a safe and supportive environment for women and LGBTQ students at UT Austin so they may reach their academic and personal goals.
  • Create functional links to allies within the larger institution, as well as the wider Austin community .
  • Work to diminish the prejudice that not only impairs the educational experiences and the safety of individual women and LGBTQ students, but also impedes the development of others within the institution.

To achieve these goals, the GSC provides safe spaces for students to gather and do academic, social and political work. We meet with individual women and LGBTQ students about their aspirations and concerns; advise student women and LGBTQ leaders; support the development and planning of LGBTQ Pride Month programming, the Vagina Monologues, as well as numerous other student initiated programs; identify and refer students to other helpful people and services at UT Austin and in the wider Austin community; and offer a host of services and programs for students regarding women's issues, the LGBTQ community, and ally development.
