Information for Faculty

Thanks for visiting our web site. As a faculty member, we at the GSC want you to know that the center is for you, as well as for students, staff and community members. We hope that you will recommend the Gender and Sexuality Center to students with whom you interact.

Our main purpose is to provide space for members of the UT community to explore and organize around issues of gender and sexuality. At the same time, our center also serves as a safe space for women at the University, as well as those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

We encourage you to visit the center, which is located on the ground floor of the Student Services Building, and we are open Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. At the center, you can check out books and DVDs from our library, talk to a staff member about issues of gender and sexuality, and just hang out, if you like.

Note to LGBTQ and Ally faculty and staff: An LGBT faculty and staff organization is forming on campus! Please e-mail Lynne Milburn at l.milburn@mail.utexas.edu to get involved with the organization.

Browse these web pages and e-mail us if you have any questions. Here are some highlights of our services just for you:

  • Take a look at the services you can take advantage of. You can sign up for the GSC's e-bulletins to stay informed about campus and community events.
  • We would also love for you to consider becoming a mentor in one of our mentor programs. We have a Women's and LGBT mentor program, where we pair student mentees with faculty and staff as mentor. For more information see our Services page.
  • Request a Safe Space training for your class or group. Safe Space training sessions address topics of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender identities, as well as heterosexism, homophobia and ally development.
  • The LGBTQA Speakers Bureau: Panelists consisting of UT students, faculty, staff, parents, and members of the Austin community who identify as LGBT or consider themselves a heterosexual ally create a dialogue about LGBT issues through a panel discussion. As a faculty member, you can apply to join the Speakers Bureau or request a presentation for your class. Return completed applications and request forms to the GSC, located in the Student Services Building, or by email.
  • Check out this booklet from Syracuse University which addresses how faculty and staff can be more LGBT-inclusive in their work.
