Student Organizations

The University of Texas at Austin is proud to be one of the largest public institutions in the United States. As UT strives to prepare students for our diverse society, it is imperative that it continues to stress excellence in learning, discovery, freedom, leadership, individual opportunity and responsibility.

Students continue to be the university’s most valued and respected resource as its work is shaped by the atmosphere created by and for these students. While college is a time where many grow and prosper in different ways, it is important to acknowledge that identity is a process in which individuals and communities have different needs and preferences. For this Web site, suggested identifiers have been chosen that reflect the preferences of many of the students. The university does not wish to change how individuals identify themselves, but rather to recognize these communities in ways that are both welcoming and inclusive.

We are committed to creating an environment in which all students can celebrate the rich diversity at The University of Texas at Austin.

Empowering Leadership Alliance (ELA)

Empowering Leadership Alliance (ELA) @ UT Computer Science is the UT branch of the organization founded by Dr. Richard Tapia at Rice University, EL Alliance. As the title implies, ELA seeks to encourage minority UTCS students to get involved in leadership, networking, and mentoring with peers, faculty, and professionals in the area of computer science both locally and nationally. We seek to empower students by providing opportunities in which they can become engaged in these activities within UT and the minority community in Texas, as well as through participation in conferences offered by the national organization.
