College Readiness

More students are being admitted to college in Texas and across the nation; however, many aren't ready for college once they get there. The University of Texas at Austin is changing that.

As a top tier research university, we want to ensure the more than 7,000 new students who arrive on campus each year are prepared and ready for success before the first day of class.

By providing access to college planning information and navigational and socialization strategies, incoming students are given tools to help prepare them for life as a Longhorn.

With access to online assessments that help determine their readiness for the rigors of college courses, students are exposed to, and aware of, the university's academic expectations. And by navigating different majors available to them, they are able to choose a degree path that most accurately aligns with their career aspirations; setting them on track for success right away.

Additionally, each and every one of our new students is required to attend a summer orientation session, where they become acquainted with campus, meet their advisers, plan course schedules, learn about getting involved in communities and experience dorm-living, among many other things.

We want the next generation of Longhorns to arrive on campus prepared and equipped with the tools they need to go on and change the world.
