Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Accreditation (SACS)

The University of Texas at Austin is proud to participate in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Accreditation (SACS) assessment program. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is an accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among the diverse institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Latin America and other international sites approved by the Commission on Colleges that award associate, baccalaureate, master's, or doctoral degrees.

The mission of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is to assure the educational quality and improve the effectiveness of its member institutions. OIE uses this as an internal audit vehicle to measure the successfulness in our case in how OIE's programs measure up against our strategic goals and to further ensure our program's institutional effectivness.

SACS has six core values that The University of Texas at Austin wholeheartedly share. These values speak to the larger and overarching goals of both SACS and the University.

  • Integrity
  • Peer Review/Self-regulation
  • Student Learning
  • Continuous Quality Improvement
  • Accountability
  • Transparency

The following assessment plan is an ever-evolving analysis and  measurement tool for OIE to assess our programs in such a manner by analytical methods, which helps us to further measure progress towards goal obtainment. Annually OIE submits the results of our methods of analysis and corresponding outcomes in report format which then becomes part of a larger Division of Diversity and Community Engagement (DDCE) report which in turn becomes part of the overall University of Texas at Austin's compilation submitted to the SACS program.

We are proud to be a part of this exercise to measure the outcomes of our programs to ensure we are reaching our stated goals and to assess areas of necessary change in order to fulfill the intent and spirit of equal opportunity on an institutional level.
