Gone to Texas is a University-wide program that begins with activities in your specific college or school and concludes by gathering with fellow new students from across the university in front of the Tower for the official program to welcome you and celebrate your arrival.
Below is a list of the activities in each college and school as well as details regarding the Gone to Texas program on the Main Mall.
Gone to Architecture
6:15 - 8:15 p.m.
Homer Rainey Hall (HRH), Jessen Auditorium
Dean Fritz Steiner welcomes new students to the School of Architecture. Pizza party with faculty, staff, and current students will follow in the Eden and Hal Box Courtyard at Goldsmith Hall. At 8:15pm, we will walk to the UT Tower for the Gone to Texas festivities.

New students in the McCombs School of Business are invited to come join us to meet, greet and eat! After an official welcome from the McCombs Deans, new business students will have the chance to meet and greet with representatives from the McCombs Affiliated Student Organizations as well as the Office of Student Life, the Business Honors Program, BBA International Programs, BBA Career Services and many more. Check-in is from 6-6:30 p.m. Dress for the event is casual. We recommend that you wear the Business t-shirt you received at orientation. We will be walking to Gone to Texas after our event.

Join us to meet your fellow Communication classmates, future academic advisors and deans. Help us celebrate with music from our advisor DJs and free food catered by the fine folks at the Texas Union. Communication student organizations, Career Services and our study abroad coordinator will also be there to answer any questions you may have. The Cockrell School of Engineering welcomes incoming first-year, transfer and graduate students to Gone to Engineering, presented by Engineering Student Life. Gather with all new freshmen, transfers and graduate students and meet Cockrell School student leaders, faculty and staff and explore engineering student organizations and services. Dress for the event is casual and undergraduates are strongly encouraged to show your Texas Engineering pride and wear the t-shirt you received at freshman/transfer orientation. A barbeque dinner (veggie option available) is planned (wristband required, given at check-in). At 8:15 p.m. everyone will walk over to Gone to Texas. New Student Welcome
At the Tower
New students from all colleges and schools are invited to gather at the Tower to attend Gone to Texas, the official program to welcome new students to The University of Texas at Austin. The fun-filled program will include live performances, the official welcome by President Powers, presentation of the Gone to Texas video contest finalists and an announcement of the winners, special guest speakers and presentations, and a finale featuring the Longhorn Band.
A reserved seating section for guests with hearing impairments will be available near the stage on the southwest corner. An interpreter will be provided.
