The University at 123 is an anniversary celebration commemorating the 123rd birthday of The University of Texas. As a part of the celebration, William Powers Jr. will be installed as the institution's 28th president. The ceremony will begin with a formal academic procession including representatives from other institutions of higher education as well as representatives from colleges, schools and administrative units within The University of Texas at Austin.

Award presentations historically included in The University at 123 celebration, including the Civitatis Award and Presidential Citation, will be presented this year at a separate awards dinner for award recipients and their guests.

In the installation ceremony, the new university president, William Powers Jr., will receive the historic symbols of authority at The University of Texas at Austin - the presidential regalia, medallion of office, and mace and gavel. This festive occasion gives the university family and distinguished guests an opportunity to congratulate its new president and to confirm and celebrate the university's commitment to leadership in higher education.

In a time of transition from one administration to the next, this ceremony reminds the university community and the people of Texas that The University of Texas at Austin continues to pass the torch of knowledge and leadership from generation to generation, as it has done for the past 123 years.
