Happy Birthday, UT!

12:15-12:30 p.m., Main Mall

A three-week observance of UT's 115th birthday gets underway today. Please join the festivities including birthday cake...remarks by President Faulkner...Texas flag...sing "Happy Birthday, UT!"  Sponsored by the Student Chapter of the Ex-Students' Association.

A special feature will be the introduction of the ceremonial mace, a staff symbolizing academic authority or office. Rolando Hinojosa-Smith, Marshal of The University, will present the mace that will travel among UT's core constituencies and be displayed in significant campus locations, leading to anniversary events on Tuesday, October 6th.

Birthdays invite us to reflect on the past and to ponder the future. In the UTexas@115 Symposium, UT faculty and alumni will trace the trajectories of UT’s present into UT’s future as they consider what kind of university The University of Texas at Austin will be at its Sesquicentennial in 2033.

Academic Convocation

4:30-6:00 p.m., Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Concert Hall

The Academic Convocation will signal officially the assumption of office of Larry R. Faulkner as the 27th president of The University of Texas at Austin. President Faulkner will present his inaugural State of The University Address at a ceremonial occasion that includes celebratory music, heraldic maces, and an academic procession of students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Guests are invited to a reception following the convocation.
