Dr. Harris joined The University of Texas at Austin in late 1998 to develop a research program in alcohol and addiction research. His training is in neurobiology and pharmacology and his research area is molecular mechanisms of addiction. His laboratory studies actions of alcohol and other drugs using levels of analysis that range from expression of cloned genes in frog eggs to analysis of human brain. Dr. Harris's most recent award was the Distinguisher Researcher Award presented by the Research Society on Alcoholism on June 30, 1999.
