Chrystal Riley

Chrystal RileyStarting at a young age, Chrystal Riley has always been a hard worker. Throughout her time attending Westwood High School, she babysat for families to earn spending money and got her first “real job” working for a builder in town beginning her senior year. Fresh out of high school, Chrystal continued in the working world.  She joined Facilities Services 27 years ago and, aside from a six-year hiatus, has worked here ever since.

Chrystal began her career at the university in a position within Custodial Services, helping to distribute and file time reports, maintaining appointments and leave records, and carrying out other clerical duties. She also collaborated with others to help plan the electronic time report system. After a four-year stint working for the Center for Research in Water Resources at Pickle Research Campus and some time doing temporary work, Chrystal returned to Custodial Services part-time. After a few months she filled a full-time administrative position.

Now, Chrystal is a Human Resources Representative for Personnel Services within the Administrative and Personnel Services division. She prepares job postings for open positions in the department and processes new employees’ new hire paperwork. She handles employee reclassifications and reassignment documents and has worked with a team to help develop the human resource management system (HRMS) by testing various aspects of it.

Although Chrystal was born in Amarillo, her parents relocated to Austin before her first birthday, and she has lived here since then. She now resides in Leander with her husband of 23 years, Greg, and their dogs. Their son, also named Greg, graduated from Leander High School in 2010. He has just completed his second year at Texas State, where he majors in music performance, playing the bassoon and contra bassoon.

Chrystal and her husband make regular trips to San Marcos to see Greg’s performances with the orchestra and wind symphony. She rides the MetroRail into work every morning and likes reading to pass the time. When she is not at work or visiting her son, Chrystal enjoys time with friends and extended family, watching television, and seeing movies.
