Physical Plant Restructure
Physical Plant has been restructured to improve the ability to deliver renovation projects faster, better, more cost-effectively and in a more customer-friendly manner. This restructuring is the result of Physical Plant's Renovation Project Delivery Enhancement Program (RPDEP) -- a strategic continuous improvement initiative.
Key aspects of the Renovation Project Delivery Enhancement Program (RPDEP)
- Conducted a self-assessment
- Partnered with our professional association, APPA (Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers) for an independent external assessment
- Engaged a consultant who provided valuable advice regarding our organizational structure and our processes
- Involved employees from Physical Plant and stakeholder organizations by setting up teams including Process Action Teams (PATs), a RPDEP leadership team, a RPDEP Core Team, and the administration sponsorship team
- The RPDEP initiative resulted in over a hundred action items and deliverables. For the purpose of communicating, acting upon, and tracking our progress towards these action items and deliverable, we have grouped them into 8 themes. Restructuring is one of 8 themes. You may visit the RPDEP Web page for more information on this initiative.
- RPDEP teams considered several different options for reorganization, all included creating a separate department headed by a Director focused primarily on renovation.
Physical Plant Restructuring Plan was approved by Dr. Clubb in January 2006 effective January 1st.
Key elements of the Restructuring Plan
- Physical Plant has spun off its renovation project delivery function creating a separate but connected department, Project Management and Construction Services (PMCS). Physical Plant will be renamed to Facilities Services effective April 17, 2006, and will continue to provide high quality facilities maintenance and facilities support services that you have come to expect. PMCS, made up of employees formerly in Architectural and Engineering Services (A&E Services) and Planning and Construction (P&C), will focus on delivering renovation projects
- In the interest of efficiency, Administrative & Personnel Services and Business Services will provide internal support to both Facilities Services and PMCS
