The 475-acre J.J. Pickle Research Campus (PRC) is located about eight miles north of the main university campus, and consists of facilities that originally functioned as a magnesium plant during World War II. The university purchased the campus in 1949, and PRC now houses some of the finest research departments in the world, including Applied Research Laboratories, the Bureau of Economic Geology, the Center for Electromechanics, Texas Advanced Computing Center, and the Nuclear Engineering Teaching Lab.
