Recycling Stats
Facilities Services is responsible for recycling the following paper products on campus:
- White copy paper
- Colored paper
- Newsprint
- Post-It Notes
- Magazines
- Glossy paper
- Hardback and paperback books
- Spiral notebooks
- Envelopes and folders
- Cardboard
*Paper Recycling Tip: We basically recycle anything that tears, as long as it hasn't been used for food or hygiene purposes (e.g., candy wrappers, tissues, or disposable plates and cups).
How to recycle on campus
Recycling is a joint effort among several groups throughout the university campus. The Environmental Health and Safety Recycling Web site gives an overview of the recycling efforts.
The Recycling Task Force coordinates recycling for aluminum, plastic, and ink cartridges at UT. The programs are entirely student-run and are part of the Campus Environmental Center (CEC), an agency of Student Government. To find out about CEC recycling programs, visit the Web site, or call 512-232-7840
- To dispose of confidential and sensitive information contact Austin Task Inc. at 512-389-3333. (The purchase order number to use this service is 2006C00291.)
- To recycle large amounts of paper from office cleanups, borrow 96-gallon recycling cans from the Recycling Office by calling 512-471-8438. Please note that these cans may be borrowed for a maximum of three days.
How to request a blue bin:
On the Main Campus
To recycle paper, place paper materials in a blue bin.To request a free blue bin for paper recycling, submit your building, room number, contact name, and phone number to the Recycling Office any one of three ways:
- Fill out the online Recycling Bin Order Form. (Please note that the 23-gallon containers are NOT available at this time. This notice will be removed when they become available.)
- Call the Recycling Office at 512-471-5822
On the Pickle Research Campus
Call John Pinson at 512-571-3609 to request a blue bin.
