Safety Equipment

• To request the purchase of safety equipment for your shop or zone, fill out the safety equipment request form.
• Safety stencils are available for you to use on any Facilities Services or Project Management and Construction Services property. To borrow any of these 24"x24" stencils, contact Sammy Pipes at 512-471-7183.

Safety Recognition Program

The Safety Recognition Program distinguishes employees for following safety procedures and minimizing accidents on the job, and rewards them with incentive items. Because safety is essential in the workplace, the program's goal is to motivate employees to be proactive, increase safety awareness, and recognize those who go above and beyond in keeping our work environment safe.

Supervisors can fill out a nomination form to nominate a Facilities Services or Project Management and Construction Services employee to receive a safety incentive item. The incentive items awarded to employees depend on the level of safety recognition they receive. Following are the criteria for the three levels of safety recognition:

Level One Recognition can be earned by employees who meet the following criteria:

• Employee has submitted safety observations/reported concerns that have been evaluated/approved by a safety coordinator
• Employee is a Safety Council member
• Employee has received on-the-spot acknowledgement of safety acts (this means the supervisor has recommended the employee with assistant/associate director approval)

Level Two Recognition can be earned by employees who meet the following criteria:

• Employee has submitted high-priority-level safety suggestions that have been evaluated/approved by the director
• Employee has attended at least two safety-related brown-bag sessions in a six-month period

Level Three Recognition can be earned by employees who meet the following criteria:

• Employee has submitted safety suggestions that are significant to life and health, and have been evaluated/approved by the director
• Employee has attended at least four safety-related brown-bag sessions in a six-month period

• Fire Prevention Services (FPS)-You can use the FPS Web site to learn valuable information about preventing fires both in the workplace and at home.
• National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). You can use the NIOSH Web site to learn about preventing work-related illnesses and injuries.
• Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). You can use the OSHA Web site to learn about the U.S. Department of Labor's occupational safety and health regulations and initiatives.
• Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSH). You can use the TDSH Web site to learn about health and safety issues relevant to Texas.
• University Police (UTPD). You can use The University of Texas at Austin Police Department Web site as a resource on crime prevention and law enforcement on campus.
