MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE 1998-1999 FACULTY COUNCIL ON MAY 11, 1998
The first special meeting of the 1998-1999 Faculty Council was held in Room 212 of the Main Building on Monday, May 11, 1998, at 2:15 p.m. Shelley M. Payne (Microbiology), Chair of the 1998-1999 Faculty Council, presided.

I. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE TO NOMINATE FACULTY COUNCIL OFFICERS FOR 1998-1999 (16871-16872).
Paul B. Woodruff (Philosophy), Chair of the Committee, announced that the other members of the committee were Shelley M. Payne (Microbiology), John C. Gilbert (Chemistry and Biochemistry), and John R. Durbin (Mathematics).
A. Election of the Chair Elect. (Martha F. Hilley elected)
For Chair Elect the committee nominated Patrick J. Davis (Pharmacy) and Martha F. Hilley (Music). There were no other nominees. Each candidate made a brief statement. By secret ballot Professor Hilley was elected by a vote of 21 to 17.
B. Election to the Executive Committee of a member from the Faculty Advisory Committee on Budgets. (Michael H. Granof elected)
The only nominee was Michael H. Granof, who was nominated by the committee. By secret ballot he was elected by a vote of 38 to 0.
C. Election to the Executive Committee of a member from the Educational Policy Committee. (James D. Garrison elected)
The committee nominated James D. Garrison (English) and Desmond F. Lawler (Civil Engineering). There were no other nominees. By secret ballot Professor Garrison was elected by a vote of 26 to 12.
D. Election to the Executive Committee of a member from the Faculty Welfare Committee. (Gretchen Ritter elected)
The committee nominated Carolyn P. Boyd (History) and Gretchen Ritter (Government). Professor Boyd declined the opportunity to make a statement and Professor Ritter accepted. There were no other nominees. By secret ballot Professor Ritter was elected by a vote of 24 to 16.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
