In accordance with the rules of the General Faculty, as set forth in the UT Austin Handbook of Operating Procedures, the Secretary of the Faculty Council submits to the General Faculty the following report on the work of the Faculty Council from September 1, 1998, through August 31, 1999.

II. MEETINGS.

There were six regular meetings in 1998-1999. The regular meetings of the Faculty Council in October, 1998, December, 1998, and February, 1999, were cancelled because there was no legislation to be discussed. The regular meetings of the Faculty Council for June, July, and August were cancelled due to the limited nature of business in the summer.

Transmitted to Chancellor by President on January 20, 1999, with these comments: "This legislation was discussed among my office, the office of the Provost, and members of the Faculty Council Executive Committee. It puts into the Regents' Rules what has been the practice at the University of Texas at Austin. Confidential consultation with a faculty committee regarding a possible suspension is guaranteed, but the final determination is made by the President. This process has worked well on our campus. I recommend your favorable consideration of the proposed change."
