1DOCUMENTS OF THE GENERAL FACULTY
NEW NUMBERING SYSTEM FOR THE DOCUMENTS OF THE GENERAL FACULTY AND
THE FACULTY COUNCIL
For many years the Office of the General Faculty has used two numbering systems for faculty documents: one for Documents and Minutes of the General Faculty (D&M), and the other for Documents and Proceedings of the Faculty Council (D&P). The D&P numbering was also used, without interruption, during the years when the University Council replaced the Faculty Council.
For an extended period, D&M documents were distributed by campus mail to all faculty, and D&P documents were distributed only to members of the Council and to others who requested them. Many documents were assigned both D&M and D&P numbers.
Because documents are now posted at the Faculty Council web site (www.utexas.edu/faculty/council) and distributed only in special cases, the double-numbering system seems unnecessary. The Faculty Council is a representative body of the General Faculty; a single-numbering system will be simpler and will lead to less confusion.
This document, numbered D1, is the first page of a new numbering system, Documents of the General Faculty, which will replace both of the previous systems. The adoption of this system has been approved by the Executive Committee of the Faculty Council and will be assumed to be approved by the Faculty Council as of its meeting on September 20, 1999, unless there is a protest from a member of the Council before then.
