Jack Lenhart, age 78, died in Austin, Texas,
on June 8, 1987. He was born in Huron, South Dakota, and graduated
from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor of science degree
in engineering.
After graduation, he worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Tennessee.
In September of 1937, he joined the faculty of the University of Texas
in the Department of Drawing, which later became the Department of Mechanical
Engineering. He taught engineering graphics and descriptive geometry.
He retired as a professor emeritus of mechanical engineering from the University
of Texas after forty years of teaching. After retirement, he was employed
as a consultant for Astro-Mechanics, and was chief engineer at Reinhart & Associates.
Jack Lenhart's students remember him as a man of patience and detail, always
willing to explain things to his students, either in class or in his office.
Survivors included his wife, Marian; son and daughter-in-law, J. David
and Judy G. Lenhart; daughter, Patricia L. McCulloch; grandchildren, Greg
and Janis Lenhart, and Chrissy McCulloch; great-grandchild, Julie Lenhart;
and brothers, Cort G. Platt, Robert J. Platt, and William E. Platt.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 12, 1987, at Weed-Corley Funeral
Home, followed by burial in Austin Memorial Park.
