IN MEMORIAM
HENRY FRED ALVES
Henry Fred Alves, professor emeritus
of educational administration, died on July 9, 1969. He was 75.
Professor Alves was born on May 9,
1894, in Gruene, Texas. He earned a bachelor's degree from Southwest
Texas State University in 1928 and a master's degree from The University
of Texas at Austin in 1929.
Professor Alves worked in numerous
schools in Texas as a teacher and principal. For a number of years he
served as superintendent of the Alamo Heights Schools in San Antonio,
Texas. He directed finance and research at the Texas State Department
of Education and oversaw the division of school administration for the
U.S. Office of Education. He also worked as a program director with
the Kellogg Foundation. He joined the faculty of the University in 1950
and taught until his retirement in 1965.
Professor Alves held a fellowship from
the General Education Board, Texas State Department of Education, in
1929-30. He was listed in the 1953-54 edition of Who's Who In American
Education.
