IN MEMORIAM
ROBERT WILLIAM BENE
Robert William Bené, retired professor of electrical
engineering, died on October 26, 1995. He was 56. Burial was in Williams,
Arizona.
Professor Bené was born on July 27, 1939, in
Phoenix, Arizona. He received a bachelor's degree from the University
of Arizona in 1961. He earned a master's degree from the University
of California at Berkeley in 1963. He was awarded a PhD from Stanford
University in 1968.
Dr. Bené then joined the faculty of The University
of Texas at Austin. He taught at UT Austin until his retirement in 1993.
His research interest was solid state interface reactions and instabilities,
and he authored over 30 published papers. Professor Bené received
research awards from the National Science Foundation for 1981-83 and
from Texas Instruments in 1986.
