IN MEMORIAM
OLIVER H. BOWN
Oliver H. Bown, professor of educational psychology,
died on July 6, 1995, in Austin. He was 73.<
Professor Bown was born on August 6, 1921, in Denver,
Colorado. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University
of Denver in 1943. Following graduation, he served in the United States
Navy, earned a master's degree in psychology from the University of
Chicago in 1948, and joined the faculty of The University of Texas at
Austin in 1951. He was awarded a PhD in clinical psychology from the
University of Chicago in 1954. He became a professor at the University
in 1966.
Professor Bown held several administrative posts at
UT Austin, including the directorship of the counseling division of
the Testing and Counseling Center and the associate directorship of
the Personality Research Center of the College of Education. He was
also senior scholar in residence for the Research and Development Center
for Teacher Education. Professor Bown was a member of the American Psychological
Association and the National Society for the Study of Education.
