IN MEMORIAM
FOLKERT BRONS
Folkert Brons, professor emeritus of petroleum
engineering, died on May 16, 1988. He was 81.
Professor Brons was born on January 3, 1907,
in Sappemeer, Holland. He received a PhD from the University of
Groningen in 1938.
Dr. Brons taught at the University of Groningen
from 1934 to 1938. He worked with the Royal Dutch Shell Company
from 1938 to 1950 and for Shell Oil Company from 1950 to 1967.
He was visiting professor at The University of Texas at Austin
from 1967 to 1969. He joined the permanent faculty of the University
in 1969, where he taught until 1984, when he was named professor
emeritus.
Professor Brons acquired a patent for the neutron
log. He was also selected as a distinguished lecturer by the Society
of Petroleum Engineers.
