ARTHUR HARWOOD DEEN
Arthur Harwood Deen, onetime professor of geology, was born on August 26, 1896, in Austin, Texas. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from The University of Texas at Austin in 1918 and 1922, respectively.
Professor Deen was an instructor at the University from 1920 to 1924. He became an associate professor in 1930. He taught until 1952, when he resigned. He was chairman of the Department of Geology at the time of his resignation. He also organized one of the nation's most extensive field training programs in geology.Professor Deen was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Southwestern Geological Society, the New York Academy of Science, and the Texas Academy of Science.
