IN MEMORIAM
HOWARD EDWARD DEGLER
Howard Edward Degler, retired professor
of mechanical engineering, was born on November 1, 1893, in Womelsdorf,
Pennsylvania. He received master's degrees from Lehigh University and
the University of Illinois in 1914 and 1927, respectively.
Professor Degler taught at Hampton Institute
and the University of Illinois. He joined the faculty of The University
of Texas at Austin in 1930, where he taught until 1948.
Professor Degler authored Internal-Combustion
Engines (1931 and 1935). With W. H. Severns, he wrote Steam,
Air, and Gas Power (1929, 1933, 1939, and 1948).
