IN MEMORIAM
CATHERYNE S. FRANKLIN
Catheryne S. Franklin, retired associate
professor of library and information science, died on September 2, 1992.
She was 79.
Professor Franklin was born on June
20, 1913, in Poplar, Montana. She received a bachelor's degree from
the University of Oklahoma in 1935 and a master's degree from The University
of Texas at Austin in 1954.
Professor Franklin was a librarian in
the Laredo, Mercedes, and Seymour, Texas public schools. She joined
the staff of the University in 1947. She became a member of the faculty
in 1956 and taught until 1978, when she retired.
Professor Franklin served as president
of the Texas Library Association in 1972-73. She was a member of the
Texas Association of School Librarians and the American Library Association.
In 1978 she became the sixth person honored with the Distinguished Service
Award by the Texas Library Association.
A scholarship fund was established in
Professor Franklin's memory by the Graduate School of Library and Information
Science.
