T. J. GIBSON III
T. J. Gibson III, associate professor emeritus
of law, died on March 7, 1985. He was 67.
Professor Gibson was born on February 7, 1918,
in Winnsboro, Texas. He earned his bachelor's and JD degrees from
The University of Texas at Austin in 1939 and 1948, respectively.
Professor Gibson joined the faculty of the University
in 1948 as an instructor and assistant librarian. Following a
two-year absence to serve as state librarian, he returned to the
law school, remaining there until his retirement in 1984. During
his tenure of 34 years, Professor Gibson served as both assistant
and associate dean for student affairs. Known by students as the
"law students' friend" for his commitment to their needs, the
Student Bar Association twice dedicated its annual Law Week to
him. In 1984 Professor Gibson was named outstanding alumnus of
the law school by the UT Law School Association.<signed>
