IN MEMORIAM
MARY BELL GRANGER JAMES
Mary Bell James, retired assistant professor of curriculum
and instruction, died on November 20, 1986, in Austin. She was 84.
Professor James was born on October 10, 1902, in Austin.
She received her bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin
in 1924. She earned her master's degree from the University of Tennessee
in 1930. She taught at Austin High School for more than fifteen years
and also served as the school's first counselor. Professor James joined
the faculty of UT Austin as a lecturer in 1942-43. In 1953 she returned
to the University to teach English education courses until her retirement
in 1964. She also supervised student teachers.
