IN MEMORIAM
FRANK WELDON JESSEN
Frank Weldon Jessen, professor of petroleum
engineering, died on July 15, 1972. He was 65.
Professor Jessen was born on February 21, 1907,
in Austin, Texas. He received bachelor's, master's, and doctoral
degrees from The University of Texas at Austin in 1927, 1930,
and 1933, respectively.
Dr. Jessen was an instructor at UT Austin from
1930 to 1933. He worked for Humble Oil and Refining Company from
1933 to 1944. He later worked for Petroleos Mexicanos. He was
visiting professor at the University in 1952-53 and was a member
of the permanent faculty from 1953 until his death.
Professor Jessen published numerous articles
in technical and scientific journals, including the Journal
of American Chemical Society, Industrial and Engineering
Chemistry, and the Oil and Gas Journal.
Professor Jessen was a member of the American
Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society,
and the American Petroleum Institute.
In 1981 the UT System Board of Regents established
the Frank W. Jessen Professorship in Petroleum Engineering in
his honor.
