IN MEMORIAM

HARRELL E. LEE

Harrell E. Lee, retired associate professor of journalism, died on May 11, 1983. He was 76.

Professor Lee was born on January 6, 1907, in De Queen, Arkansas. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri in 1927.

Professor Lee worked as a staff writer and editor for the Associated Press in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and New York City. When World War II broke out, he served as commanding officer of the 108th Chemical Processing Company in the Pacific.

He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 1948. Professor Lee's specialties were editorial writing, reporting, and the evaluation of press coverage of current affairs. Besides teaching, Professor Lee also was editorial adviser for the Daily Texan from 1948 to 1958.
